We fight against mastitis, all together!
The Udder Health Observatory in Wallonia is a thinktank to promote research and application in the field of bovine udder Health. It includes the vast majority of Walloon organizations related to dairy production and milk quality, from the world of breeding, agronomy, agricultural techniques and veterinary health.
Mastitis is the first condition in dairy farming at present, but also the leading cause of antibiotic use and economic losses. Their mastery is complex because of factors such as diet, genetics, milking hygiene, milking machine, endemic diseases or therapeutic choices can be causes of mastitis. An estimated annual impact in Wallonia to 44 million euros, of which 10 million could be prevented with simple gestures.
Lots of information arise today concerning our production animals. Ruminants represent a real added value for our environment because they now feed mainly on permanent grassland in Wallonia, which is a cultural practice that absorbs carbon each year (0.5 to 1 tonne / year / hectare of grassland). In addition, each harvest milk is associated with a different analysis of prospective drugs which consituants which protects the consumer in each collection.
